ABOUT ME

Lisa Danielson

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Lisa Danielson is a communications professional with 25 years’ experience analyzing, developing, and implementing communications strategies for complex, high-profile policy issues. She has worked on a diversity of issues on behalf of prominent global brands, local government, and community-based non-profits.

Lisa has been involved with communication campaigns impacting public policy at the local, state, and national level. Her expertise includes messaging and reputation building to support public institutions including large universities, government agencies and industry associations representing environmental conservation, regulated cannabis, K-12 education, refuse and recycling. In the private sector Lisa’s client focus has ranged from industrial manufacturing to land use and development, energy, technology, and telecommunications.

Lisa’s approach is not sector-based, but instead grounded in specific disciplines that can be applied to a wide array of communications challenges. She works with clients to consider audience and message, and then to identify the appropriate channels and volume to deliver information. She excels at repositioning issues where perceptions seem to be entrenched, when necessary, in order to refresh and reframe a narrative for decision-makers and the public.

On many projects, Lisa is engaged to support a diversity of subject matter experts under a cohesive communications approach. Where possible, she encourages opinion research that seeks awareness and perceptions of issues, and then hones communications based on what will be resonant with target audiences. Lisa has moderated focus groups for clients addressing issues dealing with water and public infrastructure as well as controversial land use and annexation issues. In the summer of 2021, she conducted 1-on-1 interviews with influential stakeholders on a project emphasizing sustainability, diversity, and equity. This audience-centered practice has helped her to play a role on client teams where the communications challenge is not to amplify, but to moderate information and strategically map the sequence and volume of messages to inoculate and/or to persuade. Lisa has been part of client teams with legal counsel advising on how to communicate appropriately with key stakeholders inside or outside of an organization when the goal is to refocus on core mission and vision. She regularly works with a network of media relations and digital communications experts as part of a full spectrum communications strategy when internal resources are not available.

Lisa has shared her insights for effective communications campaigns as a featured speaker at the CEO Policy Retreat for the Council on Foundations and also at Independent Sector's Public Policy Action Institute. She is a graduate of Leadership Tomorrow’s Class of 2005. LDanielson Consulting is a certified Minority Women’s Business Enterprise in Washington State.
